CRISIS RESPONSE TO HAITI EARTHQUAKE
Posted January 15, 2010 10:13 AM
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake devastated the capital city of Haiti, Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. This is the strongest earthquake to hit the nation of Haiti in more than 200 years and has crushed thousands of structures, from schools and homes to the National Palace and the U.N. peacekeeping headquarters. The devastation is so complete that the death toll is predicted to run into the thousands. The International Red Cross reports that“an estimated 3 million people have been affected by the quake”.
Kelvin Honsinger, ERDO’s Director of International Programs, is already connecting with trusted partners and PAOC Missions to help determine how best to respond to the overwhelming need being experienced by the Haitian people. Gratefully we can report that PAOC missionaries Michel and Louise Charbonneau and other mission personnel Tami Goslow and Bob Thornley are safe. For updates please see www.erdo.ca.
Please pray with us:
1. For the safety of our 370 Child CARE Plus sponsored children in Port au Prince
2. For wisdom and favour as we work together with missionaries and partners to help the suffering
3. For those families who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods.
ERDO needs your financial gift to help us re-build lives in Haiti:
Generous, substantial gifts will enable ERDO to provide timely and on-going assistance to thousands of people. Together we can help re-build lives, care for the traumatized and bring hope to the suffering.
Donations are urgently needed to assist those facing desperate needs:
Cheque – payable to “PAONL” on a remittance form marked “Haiti Earthquake Response”.
Thank you for your compassion, support and continued prayers for all those who are suffering at this time!
On January 14, 2010, the Government of Canada announced it would match the generosity of Canadians in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, up to a total of $50 million.
“Do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the orphan. Plead for the widow.” Isaiah 1:17
